The Automotive Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and launch support of mechanical components and systems for automotive applications. This role works crossfunctionally with systems, electrical, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers to ensure products meet performance, cost, quality, and timing targets.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development
• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for automotive products (ICS, IVI and electronics packaging as applicable).
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings (GD&T) using tools such as CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks.
• Perform tolerance stack-ups, material selection, and design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
• Support system-level architecture and mechanical integration.
Analysis & Validation
• Conduct or support CAE/FEA analysis (thermal, structural, vibration, fatigue) as required.
• Develop and execute DV/PV test plans and support validation testing.
• Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for design or field issues.
Program & Cross-Functional Support
• Work closely with Program Management to meet program timing, cost, and quality targets.
• Interface with suppliers on design reviews, technical feasibility, and issue resolution.
• Support prototype builds, design reviews, and engineering change management (ECR/ECO).
Manufacturing & Launch
• Support manufacturing process development, tooling reviews, and pilot builds.
• Resolve manufacturing and launch issues related to mechanical design.
• Participate in APQP activities including DFMEA, PFMEA, and PPAP support.
Customer & Quality
• Support customer engineering reviews and technical discussions.
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications, internal standards, and regulatory requirements (OEM, IATF 16949, ISO, etc.).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in automotive mechanical design and development.
• Strong experience with 3D CAD tools (CATIA/NX/SolidWorks).
• Knowledge of automotive development processes (APQP, DV/PV, PPAP).
• Solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (injection molding, die casting,
stamping, machining).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Automotive or high-volume manufacturing experience
• Experience with RFQ processes and sourcing decisions
• Familiarity with APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, and PPAP
• Experience with CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks) – review level or hands-on
